Daniel Peter Ebhomien, the author of Liturgical African Songs, was born on August 14, 1981 to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Pius Ebhomien. He attended Evergreen Royal Private School, Onike (1986–1992) and St. Finbarr’s College, Akoka (1993 and 1999), both in Lagos State, Nigeria.

 

He studied Music at the Obafemi Awolowo University (O.A.U.), Ile-Ife (2007-2011) majoring in Church Music under the tutelage of Prof. Yemi Olaniyan. He also attended the Royal School of Church Music (R.S.C.M.), an international music course and conference in 2011. He was the Assistant Choirmaster at Our Lady of Perpetual Light Catholic Church, O.A.U., Ile-Ife (2008/2009) after successfully directing the famous “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat”, having been awarded the Most Dedicated Chorister in 2008. He became the Choirmaster of the church (2009-2011) leading the choir to become The Best Society of The Year (2010) in the church. He won The Most Valuable Chorister in 2011, after directing “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” for the second time. After his studies at O.A.U., he was invited by the Central Choir of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ipaja, to direct the “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” in 2012.

 

Over time, having tried his hands on musical experimentation, he became one of Nigeria's composers to produce successful African choral works using western forms and techniques, generating wide appeal among Africans.

 
He was invited in 2013 and 2015 by the Choir of St. Thomas More Catholic Chaplaincy University of Lagos to compose songs in different Nigerian languages for the Forum for the Inculturation of Liturgical Music (FILM) festival.

 

He is the music director of Voce Africana; a member of the Laz Ekwueme Chorale and Chorale de la Magnifique. He was also the Choirmaster at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Lekki, Lagos (2014-2015).

 

He is the choir trainer in Ladybird School, Gbagada, and St Gregory College Ikoyi. He is also one of the pioneer Lecturers in the Diploma Program Cecilian Academy of Sacred Music affiliated to The Emmanuel College of Sacred Music of the University of Toronto Canada.


Daniel’s marriage to Justina (nee Ogana) is blessed with two children, David and Daniella.
