Kodichukwu Okonkwo

Kodichukwu fell in love with classical music after his first attempt at playing the organ and a passionate quest to become a composer in the classical style followed. His love for music has left him stuck in the church as a chorister and organist and later as a music tutor.

Kodichukwu describes himself as a self-taught composer. He is a Nigerian and he served last as a choirmaster and organist at the Church of Epiphany Area 11 Garki Abuja, Anglican Communion. He has also served as Choirmaster/Organist at St. Barnabas Anglican Cathedral Okigwe in 2001, St. John Onyiyi Nsukka in 2008-2010 and asistant at St. James Anglican Church Asokoro. In addition, he also served as a choral director of Anglican Youth Fellowship Abia State University in 2001 and a contract choral teacher of Adonai Praise Choir (APC) of Christian Union fellowship University of Nigeria Nsukka from 2004-2008. He was a recipient of the Best Organist Prize 2008 at Christ Church Chapel Choir, University of Nigeria Nsukka.

His first work, 'Great is The Lord' was premiered in 2006 by the Christ Church Chapel Choir graduants conducted by Ugochukwu Ogugiobi and sung by 30 choristers. The piece received a resounding ovation and was widely discussed and praised for a long time after the premiere.

A hymn tune 'Guide me', which he composed for the hymn 'Guide me oh Thou Great Redeemer', was performed in 2013 by the Church of Epiphany Anglican choir in a choir competition in same year. It received wonderful applause and was highly acclaimed. His recent Anglican chants have been published in midi format on this Anglican Chant website.

Kodichukwu is a Veterinary Doctor by profession at Fairvet Animal Clinic Ltd (fairvet.com) which he started in 2011 due to his love of animals and nature.

He still finds time to write musical works especially choral music and organ music. In his won words

Kodichukwu was a Guest Speaker at Composers in Conference where he gave a talk informing the composers in attendance how to get their Music performed.
